Testimonials

GAVERZA JEMKARL0061.jpg

Doing the research that I do, it is easy to fall into the trap of using western-centric views and applying them to something that needs more nuance.

When I started the immersion, I was expecting to come out with two things: an understanding of the translated stories that I have on my page in Hiligaynon, and another was to find my identity as someone who has Ilonggo roots.

I was able to understand the nuances of the language as well as the culture, with what little time we had. Being able to understand those things helped me realize what I had been missing as one that was born in Manila and entirely divorced from my roots.

It made me more interested to find that part of myself as well as galvanizing that what I do has merit. After the class I tried to find more resources such as The Enduring Ma-Aram Tradition by Alicia P. Magos. And learn more aboutmythical creatures from that area.
