As a diaspora-based initiative supporting local roots, we support cultural educators based in the Visayas, Philippines, while serving a global community of learners & reconnecting islanders.

Khokhoi (kk de la vida/mary alinney villacastin)
Baba Bisaya Co-Conjurer
KhoKhoi is a movement-based media artist and plant, body & cultural heartworker. Living between unceded Lenape / Munsee / Canarsie island of Mannahatta (NYC) & Bantayan island, Visayan Sea, Philippines. KK is a migrant proudly descended from healers, pearl divers, local leaders & boat builders within fisherfolk community of Bantayan island, in the heart center of the archipelago's seas.
KK holds a BA in Anthropology (Barnard College of Columbia University) & an MA in Media Studies (The New School of Public Engagement). In 2018-2019, KK received an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship in Dance to study local festivals & media cultures of the Visayan islands. KK's art practice is shared on rootsenroute.net/.
Alongside academic studies & artistic co-creations, KK traveled Mexico, India & Philippines, learning healing arts of plant medicine, Hilot/bodywork, Hatha Yoga, Ayurveda, Butoh dance, Movement Therapy, Kalaripayattu martial arts, & most recently, Freediving. KK channels these embodied practices through Kalami Spirit Arts @kalamispiritarts, offering bodywork, yoga, herbal elixirs, cultural handcrafts & curated gatherings. KK dreams of present futures where communities move in tune with ancestral techno-ecologies.. Amidst massive climate changes on this planet, as more & more are displaced from 'home,' KK envisions & practices cultivating sanctuary in the body.

Raffy Bunal

Raffy is a cultural worker across oceans, movement artist, theatermaker with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. They are also a bodyworker in training, ask about sessions or astrology readings!
They were in immersion with Parangal Dance Company @parangaldance to deepen dance, music, and ritual research with indigenous communities across Maguindanao: Cotabato, Zamboanga, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, and in Luzon: Lubuagan, and Batangas, respectively.
They co-organize Ulirat Market @uliratmarket for diaspora through somatic explorations into Pilipino Consciousness, within its plurality and dynamic definitions, guided by Pilipina/Pilipinx artisans and cultural workers to cultivate space for weaving, food-making, handmade crafts, specialty goods, bodywork, and personal spiritual practices in centering compassionate curiosity and intersectional celebration.
Rooted in Buglas (Negros Island), Visayas, they are deepening community in Lenape-Munsee-Canarsie lands of New York City.
